The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly obstructing police officers on duty, assaulting them and tearing the uniform of an Inspector of Police.
The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname was not disclosed, and Yunana Ali, were arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy, obstruction of public officers on duty, assault and malicious damage.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
Habib said the suspects were arrested on October 3, 2026, at about 9am by operatives attached to the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team during a routine enforcement operation along Yelwa Road, Bauchi.
He said the officers intercepted a vehicle driven by Friday, with Ali also in the vehicle, and requested to see the vehicle particulars.
According to him, “Rather than comply with lawful directives, the duo became hostile, refused to present the documents and resorted to physically assaulting the patrol team.”
The PPRO added that, “In the process, they tore the uniform of an Inspector of Police.”
He said the suspects were subsequently subdued and taken into custody at the ‘E’ Division, where discreet investigation had commenced.
Habib quoted the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, as describing the incident as “an affront to constituted authority and a deliberate attempt to undermine law enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring public safety.”
The CP warned that “assault on Police officers performing their lawful duties will not be tolerated.”
Aliyu also reminded members of the public that, “The law provides legitimate channels for redress where grievances exist.”
The PPRO said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The command urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with police officers during routine checks and “desist from acts capable of breaching public peace.”
